Trump says New Mexico should go by "New America" and claims the switch would lift home values
In a Monday Truth Social post President Trump told New Mexico to take the name New America. He argued it would raise home values and incomes in the state.

President Donald Trump has a new renaming target. This time it is a whole state.
The post
In a Truth Social message on Monday Trump said New Mexico should drop its name and call itself New America. His reasoning was simple. He wrote that the state is part of the United States and not part of Mexico.
What he says it would do
Trump claimed a fresh name would bring the state more value and prestige. He predicted that home prices and paychecks would go up. He also said residents would feel even prouder saluting the American flag.
A swipe at the state's elections
He ended the post with a jab at how New Mexico runs its elections. Trump suggested a new name might even make the state's voting honest again, repeating his claim that its elections are crooked.
Part of a pattern
This is not the first name Trump has tried to change. He signed executive orders to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America and Lake Ontario as Lake America.
So far there has been no word on whether he has plans for other places with similar names.
