Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels scored 15 points apiece as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Orlando Magic 115-93 on Friday night in Orlando.

Rudy Gobert added 14 points and nine rebounds for Minnesota. The Timberwolves are 2-0 for the first time in five years.

Wendell Carter Jr. led the winless Magic with 20 points and nine rebounds. Franz Wagner scored 18.

Winning without Edwards' shot

Two nights after scoring 45 points in Miami, Edwards hit a 3 for his first points and then missed his next 10 shots. He finished 5 of 23 from the field and 2 of 9 from 3-point range.

Minnesota did not need him to be sharp. The Timberwolves outrebounded Orlando 60-43, including 21-8 on the offensive glass. That led to 17 second-chance points. The Magic did not grab an offensive rebound in the game's first 19 minutes.

Third quarter puts it away

Minnesota never trailed. The Wolves outscored Orlando 29-15 in the third quarter to build a 26-point lead. That let coach Chris Finch rest most of his starters, including guard LaMelo Ball, for much of the fourth quarter.

Orlando shot 44% from the field and 20.5% from 3-point range. Wagner and Desmond Bane went a combined 2 for 15 from deep. Paolo Banchero had 14 points and six rebounds before sitting out the fourth quarter with right ankle soreness.
