The Thunder did not need a fourth quarter from their star. The Wizards barely got a look at the basket after the opening minutes.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 points and handed out nine assists in 29 minutes as Oklahoma City routed Washington 114-75 on Saturday night at Paycom Center.

The Thunder improved to 8-2. Washington fell to 4-6 and was held to the lowest point total by any NBA team this season.

A blowout before the fourth

Gilgeous-Alexander sat out the entire fourth quarter for the second straight night. Jared McCain scored 19 points off the bench with 17 coming before halftime. Rookie center Aday Mara added a career-high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting along with eight rebounds and three blocks in his second start.

Oklahoma City trailed 16-15 late in the first quarter then closed the period on a 10-3 run. Gilgeous-Alexander hit a step-back jumper and attacked for a layup to start that burst. Early in the second quarter Ajay Mitchell and McCain combined for the Thunder's first 16 points of the period on a 16-4 surge that stretched the lead to 18 while Gilgeous-Alexander watched from the bench.

The Thunder led 57-36 at halftime. Washington shot 29.6 percent from the field and made 7 of 43 3-pointers. The Wizards' field-goal percentage was their lowest since December 2017. Their 75 points were their fewest since the 2017-18 season.

Washington cannot climb back

The Wizards cut the deficit to 14 early in the third quarter. A 10-2 Thunder burst that included six points from Gilgeous-Alexander ended the threat. Isaiah Hartenstein grabbed 14 rebounds. Mara made his first NBA 3-pointer on his first attempt of the season.

AJ Dybantsa led Washington with 19 points. Alex Sarr had 15 points and 14 rebounds. Trae Young managed four points on 1-of-6 shooting in his first game in his home state since he was traded to the Wizards last season. Anthony Davis sat out with an ankle injury. DeAndre Ayton left late in the second quarter with a lower-leg injury and did not return. Oklahoma City played without Jaylin Williams who missed a third straight game with lower back spasms.

The Thunder have won nine straight meetings with Washington and are 5-2 since Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace suffered long-term injuries in the same game on Oct. 25. Oklahoma City visits Portland on Tuesday night.
