A 19-year-old has been arrested in North Carolina after police say he secretly recorded a UNC Charlotte student during an intimate encounter and passed the footage along to dozens of fraternity members.

Police identified the young man as Alexander Michael Evanoff. Investigators allege he filmed the woman without her permission while the two were having sex.

Shared with 32 people

Officers say the footage then landed in a message thread shared by 32 Sigma Alpha Epsilon brothers.

Police claim Evanoff owned up to what happened. The woman reportedly confronted him and asked whether he did it to look cool in front of the group. Investigators say he told her yes before apologizing.

The charges

Evanoff was taken into custody on Monday. He faces one count of disclosing private images along with two felony counts of secret peeping.

He walked out of jail on Tuesday after posting a $10,000 bond. He has not been convicted of any crime.

What the school says

UNC Charlotte says Evanoff is not enrolled there. A university spokesperson described the behavior as "reprehensible."

The case lands as fraternities across the country face fresh criticism. A woman identified as Jane Doe recently sued Cornell's Chi Phi chapter in a separate case.

An attorney for Evanoff did not reply to a request for comment.
