Sidney Crosby keeps climbing the scoring list. On Saturday he did it in the building where Marcel Dionne became a star.

Crosby scored twice as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 at Crypto.com Arena and moved into sole possession of sixth place on the NHL's all-time points list.

The win snapped a four-game skid for Pittsburgh which improved to 6-9-2 and ended a seven-game road losing streak. The Penguins had gone 0-6-1 away from home since a 7-0 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers in the season opener on Sept. 30.

Past Dionne at 1,772 points

Crosby's first goal was his 1,772nd career point. Evgeni Malkin's one-timer from the right circle caught a piece of Crosby before going in off a setup from Erik Karlsson to make it 4-2. That moved Crosby past Dionne who finished with 1,771 points.

Crosby was later awarded another goal when Kings defenseman Erik Gustafsson impeded him on a breakaway toward an empty net. That made the score 5-2 and lifted Crosby to 1,773 points on 660 goals and 1,113 assists. It was his second multi-goal game of the season.

"I mean it was probably a little bit cooler because it was here" Crosby said of passing Dionne who played 12 seasons for the Kings.

Tommy Novak also scored twice. He opened the scoring 1:52 into the first period and added another at 5:10 for the fastest two goals by a player to begin a game this season. Egor Chinakhov scored on a power play late in the first. Malkin had three assists and passed Adam Oates for 20th on the all-time scoring list with 1,421 points. Kris Letang added two assists. Sergei Murashov made 26 saves for his first win of the season.

Kings come up short

Corey Perry and Alex Laferriere scored for Los Angeles which fell to 5-8-2. Artemi Panarin appeared to tie the game at 3-3 but Pittsburgh challenged for offside and the goal was waved off. Darcy Kuemper made 14 saves.

Crosby had scored once in his previous seven games. The Penguins play at the Anaheim Ducks next.
