New Orleans Saints fans are not the only ones fed up with a 1-4 start.

Owner Gayle Benson said so out loud Tuesday at the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club. She called the record "not acceptable" and said it "falls short of what our fans truly deserve."

No excuses

"As an owner the responsibility does start with me," Benson said. "I will not make excuses and I will not accept this level of performance as our standard. I am committed to making the decisions necessary to improve this team."

She named coach Kellen Moore and general manager Mickey Loomis when she listed who is accountable. "Kellen Moore and his coaches are responsible for preparing our players to perform. Mickey Loomis and our football staff are responsible for building a roster capable of sustained success. Our players are responsible for their preparation and execution."

Pressure on the field

The Saints have lost three straight at home including a 45-24 Monday night blowout by Atlanta. The defense ranks near the bottom of the league in points allowed. It is the second straight year New Orleans has opened 1-4 but last season the team rallied after that start under first-year coach Moore.

"Words will not restore our fans' confidence," Benson said. "Our performance must do that." The Saints host the New York Giants on Sunday.
