An open job in Raleigh
NC State fired longtime coach Dave Doeren on Oct. 24.
Rivers has been seen as a leading candidate. He is in his sixth season coaching St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama. The 44-year-old has never coached in college. He has told NC State he wants to finish his high school season first.
Wilson's roots with the Wolfpack
Wilson played at NC State from 2008 to 2010. He then transferred to Wisconsin for the 2011 season.
The Seattle Seahawks took him in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft. He led Seattle to its first Super Bowl title in the 2013 season.
He went on to play 14 NFL seasons and made 10 Pro Bowls.
From the field to TV
Wilson announced in June that he was retiring from the NFL. He took a job as an analyst with CBS Sports.
