A county official confirmed that Mitte died Monday in Texas. Officials say he died by suicide. Law enforcement says the investigation into his death is still open.
A statement from his team
His representatives said they were deeply saddened to share the news. They remembered him as an actor, a philanthropist and a devoted voice for disability rights.
They noted that Mitte drew on his own life with cerebral palsy to bring truth to the role. He then used that attention to push for disability awareness and inclusion. United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's both counted him as an ambassador.
His career
Mitte appeared in 56 episodes of the AMC drama. His other credits include "The Oak Room," "The Recall" and "The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!)."
In 2019 he spoke publicly about the need for more disabled actors in Hollywood.
Earlier this month he spent time with "Breaking Bad" costar Luis Moncada. Both were all smiles in photos they shared online.
Mitte proposed to longtime girlfriend Kennedy Suarez last year after several years together.
