Manchester City have been found guilty of breaking Premier League financial rules, but the club has not been punished yet and is fighting the verdict.

What City were found guilty of

The case covers the 2009-10 season through 2017-18. The findings include sponsorship deals described as sham contracts and breaking spending limits.

The appeal

City filed an appeal on Oct. 1. A separate hearing to decide sanctions is still pending. The appeal is expected to wrap up by late January 2027. A final decision could come later than that.

What could happen

Possible penalties range from an unlimited fine to points deductions and transfer restrictions. Expulsion from the league is also possible, but it would need at least 15 of the 20 clubs to vote for it.

On the field City have not slowed down. The team won 3-0 at Liverpool in its first match after the verdict.
