The Houston Rockets are unbeaten no more. Kyrie Irving scored 35 points and Cooper Flagg added 33 as the Dallas Mavericks rallied for a 116-111 win over their in-state rivals in an NBA Cup opener Friday night in Dallas.

Irving did most of his damage after halftime with 26 of his points coming in the second half. His jumper put Dallas ahead for good at 102-100 and set up a tense final two minutes.

The loss leaves Memphis, at 5-0, as the only unbeaten team left in the NBA.

Missed free throws, big answers

Kevin Durant scored 28 points for Houston, but the career 88% free-throw shooter missed two with the Rockets down two and 1:53 left. Amen Thompson then missed a pair with 42 seconds to go after a Dallas turnover handed him the ball.

Flagg made Houston pay both times. He scored a clutch basket at the other end after each pair of misses, including a three-point play. The rookie finished 13 of 19 from the field.

Irving was 12 of 19 with five 3-pointers. Daniel Gafford scored 18 points and hit two big free throws with Dallas up one and 11 seconds left.

A perfect streak keeps rolling

Dallas fouled on purpose twice in the final 10 seconds while protecting a three-point lead. Irving then made his free throws each time. He went 6 for 6 at the line to stretch the NBA's longest active streak of made free throws to 54. The streak dates back to before he missed 19 months with a torn ACL in his left knee.

Jabari Smith Jr. scored 22 points for Houston, 10 of them in a second quarter when the Rockets outscored Dallas 31-17 to turn a seven-point deficit into a seven-point lead. Fred VanVleet added 16 and Thompson had 15. The Rockets went just 24 of 33 at the free-throw line.

Houston hosts Oklahoma City on Saturday night. Dallas hosts Sacramento on Monday night.
