Jax Taylor asks a judge to declare him legally single while his divorce settles

Jax Taylor says he does not want to stay married to Brittany Cartwright for one more day while their divorce paperwork remains unfinished.

What he asked the court for

Taylor filed papers asking a judge to declare him legally single now. He wants the marriage ended while the couple still works through a global settlement on money, property and support.

He says he asked Cartwright to agree to split the case that way. He also says she has not answered.

In a declaration he claims he came ready to settle at a recent conference. He alleges Cartwright showed up unprepared to negotiate.

His lawyer's take

Taylor's lawyer told the court the marriage is beyond repair and that keeping the couple bound as spouses helps nobody. Taylor himself wrote that he wants to be divorced now and to move on as an unmarried person.

He also asked for more than $9,000 in sanctions against Cartwright for what he calls delay.

Cartwright filed for divorce in August 2024 after five years of marriage. They share a son, Cruz. Each of them recently secured a temporary restraining order against the other.
