Doctor says Jalen Hurts' lung clots were life threatening and he could miss months
A doctor says the blood clots in Jalen Hurts' lungs could have killed him and that blood thinners may keep the Eagles QB out for three to six months.

Jalen Hurts' health scare was far more serious than a typical football injury, according to one doctor.
Dr. David Abbasi says the multiple clots found in the Eagles quarterback's lungs could have been fatal. Clots like these block the lungs from doing their main job of getting oxygen into the body.
Where the clot may have started
Abbasi believes the trouble likely began in Hurts' leg. Earlier in October a cleat struck him there. The doctor thinks the tissue damage from that hit allowed a clot to form.
He added that the long trip to London could also have played a part.
Why he could be out a while
Hurts is now taking blood thinners. Abbasi says that is exactly why a return will not come quickly. Any hit or tackle while on that medication carries a high chance of dangerous bleeding.
His estimate for time away from the field is three to six months. The Eagles have said Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season. They also say they expect a full recovery with no long-term effects.
How the diagnosis unfolded
Doctors first spotted what looked like a superficial clot in Hurts' calf. Further tests later turned up several clots in his lungs.
The players union has since called on the league to investigate the medical care he received. Commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday that the NFL welcomes that review.
