Iran calls the latest U.S. offer to end the war insufficient
A top Iranian security official said Washington's newest response falls short and warned of strikes on regional data centers if heavy fighting returns.

Iran says the newest American answer to its plan for ending the war does not go far enough. The verdict leaves stalled talks over the conflict and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz with little sign of progress.
What Tehran said
Mohsen Rezaei leads Iran's Supreme National Security Council and once commanded the Revolutionary Guard. He told state media on Sunday that Tehran considers the U.S. reply insufficient and has stopped responding for now.
Rezaei said Washington has agreed to some of Iran's seven conditions. He said others are still unclear and the U.S. needs to explain its position on them. He did not say which points remain in dispute.
A threat aimed at tech sites
Rezaei also warned that undersea cables and data centers and artificial intelligence facilities across the region could become targets if intense fighting starts again. The warning widens the list of sites Iran has said it is willing to hit.
The Guard's naval arm separately said any vessel that switches off its tracking and identification systems in the strait will be treated as hostile. Attacks on ships in the waterway have climbed since Iran's latest proposal was turned down. Another attack was reported Sunday.
How the talks got here
At the United Nations gathering of world leaders last month Iran's delegation offered a fast-track deal modeled on a memorandum the two countries signed in June. That earlier agreement fell apart within days. The new offer was rejected as well but both governments have kept talking through mediators.
The standoff comes a day after a U.S. jet disabled a cargo ship that tried to slip past the American blockade of Iranian ports. Before the war began in late February roughly a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas moved through the strait.
