Two of the biggest homecoming traditions at historically Black colleges are happening at once. Howard University opens Homecoming 2026 this weekend under the theme Wildest Dreams. In Atlanta severe weather forced Morehouse and Spelman to move their Saturday SpelHouse activities to Sunday.

Howard's week of events

Howard's celebration starts Sunday with A Call to Chapel and the Royal Court Coronation at Cramton Auditorium. Bison Madness on Tuesday kicks off the new basketball season and a student fashion show and the Red White and Bison gala on Thursday support military members of the Howard family. Yardfest and the Greek step show and a Divine Nine fundraising brunch fill Friday.

The week peaks Saturday Oct. 17 when the Howard Bison host the Morehouse Maroon Tigers at Greene Stadium. The traditional parade was postponed this year because of road construction along Georgia Avenue. The university describes the theme as a celebration of the limitless possibilities of a Howard education and the generations who turned bold dreams into reality.

SpelHouse moves to Sunday

The Atlanta University Center is hosting reunions and concerts and step shows and tailgates during SpelHouse week which began Oct. 6. Because of storms across Georgia the Saturday events moved to Sunday. Morehouse plays Savannah State at 11 a.m. at B.T. Harvey Stadium and the large tailgate that transforms the campus runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spelman's week included a convocation titled In Our Image and a symposium on AI and emerging technologies and a 30th birthday party for the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art. Alumnae are gathering for welcome check-ins and tailgates and a closing worship service in Sisters Chapel on Sunday. A few events including the presidents' town hall and the Morehouse vesper service are being rescheduled.
