Atlanta got a useful preseason test against one of the NBA's top teams.

The Hawks beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 113-110 at State Farm Arena. Atlanta led 29-28 after the first quarter and 56-49 at halftime then took a 79-70 edge into the fourth before closing it out.

A back-and-forth finish

Oklahoma City kept the game within striking distance down the stretch. The Thunder scored 31 points in the fourth while the Hawks answered with 34 to keep the lead.

Both clubs used deep rotations as they evaluate roster spots before the regular season opens later this month.

What it means

The win fits Atlanta's early preseason form as the Hawks continue home work at State Farm Arena. Oklahoma City used the road trip to sharpen late-game defense and half-court execution against a Southeast Division foe.

The NBA regular season tips off Oct. 20 with a national slate that spreads games across several networks.
