Halle Berry completes a court-required parenting program in her custody fight with Olivier Martinez
The actress signed a certificate showing she finished the Los Angeles court's online orientation ahead of an Oct. 16 hearing over their son.

Halle Berry has checked off a required step in her custody battle with ex-husband Olivier Martinez.
According to court documents, Berry signed a certificate Tuesday confirming she completed "Our Children First," the Los Angeles Superior Court's online mediation orientation and parent education program. The court requires parents to finish the program before moving forward with custody or visitation disputes.
A bitter fight over their son
The filing comes during a heated legal battle over the former couple's 13-year-old son, Maceo.
Martinez has accused Berry of putting the boy in a headlock and choking him while he played a virtual reality game. Berry denies it. She says the two were playfully roughhousing and insists she never put her hands around his neck.
Berry has described herself as a survivor of domestic violence and an advocate for victims rather than an abuser. She has said she would never hurt her child. She has also accused Martinez of failing to set appropriate boundaries for Maceo and of resisting professional help for the boy's behavioral and neurodivergent needs.
Where things stand
A judge previously granted Martinez's request for a temporary restraining order. Berry kept final decision-making authority over Maceo's mental health care and education.
The two are due back in court on Oct. 16.
