Escaped Tennessee killer Jacob Morley caught near Kansas City after his stolen truck got stuck in mud
Convicted killer Jacob Morley, who broke out of a Tennessee prison in October, is back in custody after marshals tracked a stolen truck to Missouri.

The manhunt for Jacob Allen Morley is over. The convicted killer who slipped out of a Tennessee prison last month is back behind bars.
State investigators in Tennessee said Tuesday that officers had arrested him in the Kansas City area of Missouri. Pictures released after the arrest show him in glasses with a full beard, a noticeably different look from his mug shot.
Morley broke out of the prison in Tiptonville, near Memphis, on October 25. Cameras later appeared to catch him taking a truck, which turned up abandoned in Illinois.
How the chase ended
According to a US Marshals Service representative, Morley had been holed up on farmland in Marion, Illinois. Officials say he took another truck from there along with some guns.
Marshals got word of the stolen pickup and began hunting for it. On Tuesday morning they found it outside Kansas City wearing different license plates.
Investigators used road and highway cameras to keep tabs on the truck. It finally stopped in a rural spot after getting bogged down in mud. Officers then moved in to arrest him.
The case that put him away
A jury convicted Morley last year in the 2022 death of Cody Birchfield.
Birchfield's family has said they heard about the escape from a friend rather than from officials. They felt they should have been told directly.
A woman who knew Morley growing up told reporters she was horrified by the breakout. She described him as a very dangerous person.
