Christa Pike leaves the hospital and goes back to prison after surviving her execution
Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike has been released from the hospital and sent back to prison after two doses of pentobarbital failed to kill her.

Christa Pike is no longer in the hospital. The Tennessee inmate who lived through her own lethal injection has been returned to prison.
Her legal team shared the update on Saturday. They said the 50-year-old is back at the women's prison that has held her for about three decades.
Still under care
Pike's lawyers said she continues to get medical treatment after the failed execution. They added that they are keeping a close watch on how she recovers.
In their statement the attorneys said Pike is grateful to the paramedics plus the doctors and nurses who cared for her.
What happened on Sept. 30
The state planned to put Pike to death on Sept. 30. She was sentenced for killing Colleen Slemmer, a fellow student, in 1995. Slemmer was beaten and stabbed.
Tennessee uses pentobarbital for executions. Pike was given two doses of the drug yet did not die. Rather than being declared dead she was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment. She stayed there until this week.
Questions for the state
The outcome has put a spotlight on how Tennessee carries out lethal injections. A judge has told the state Department of Correction to keep every piece of evidence tied to the failed execution.
