Brandon Aiyuk files to come back and plans to show up at the 49ers' facility Friday
Brandon Aiyuk has filed paperwork to be reinstated and plans to report to the 49ers on Friday, though San Francisco has made clear it is moving on.

Brandon Aiyuk is trying to get back on an NFL field.
The wide receiver has filed paperwork to be reinstated, his agent Drew Rosenhaus said Wednesday. Aiyuk plans to report to the San Francisco 49ers' facility Friday afternoon.
"Brandon is healthy and ready to get back on the field," Rosenhaus said.
What happens next
Aiyuk is on the 49ers' reserve/did not report list. That means the team does not pay him and he does not count against the roster.
Once he is reinstated, San Francisco has to decide what to do with his rights. The team has tried to trade him before. Releasing him is seen as the more likely move.
General manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan have said many times that Aiyuk has played his last snap for the team. Asked in September about a reunion, Shanahan simply said "no."
The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday at 3 p.m. Central.
Two years away
Aiyuk has not played since Oct. 20, 2024. He tore the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his right knee that day against Kansas City.
In July 2025 the team voided about $27 million in guaranteed money because he skipped required rehab sessions and check-ins. He was placed on the reserve/left squad list last December after he stopped showing up.
Over the summer he said on social media that he wanted to play for the Washington Commanders with his college friend Jayden Daniels. Washington has since signed veteran Stefon Diggs.
A big talent
The 49ers took Aiyuk with the 25th pick in the 2020 draft. In 2023 he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns and was named second-team All-Pro.
