Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel dies at 30 after an on-field collision with a goalkeeper
Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel died Tuesday after a stoppage-time collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono left him in cardiac arrest.

Spanish soccer is in mourning after the death of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel. He was 30.
Tenerife said De Miguel died at 8 a.m. local time Tuesday. He had been in intensive care since a collision on the field Monday afternoon.
He never regained consciousness after going into cardiorespiratory arrest.
What happened
Tenerife hosted Andorra in Spain's second division. The game had been pushed back 24 hours because of the threat of torrential rain on the island.
The score was 2-2 in the 96th minute when a long ball was played up the field. De Miguel chased it into open space.
Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono came far off his line. He jumped forward and crashed into De Miguel near the center circle.
De Miguel was struck in the chest and left unconscious. Players from both teams waved for medical help.
Owono was sent off right away. The referee formally abandoned the match a few minutes later.
A night in intensive care
Medics restored his pulse in the ambulance. He was taken to Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz.
The club said he was breathing on his own and stable overnight but still unconscious and in critical condition.
Early Tuesday his condition worsened neurologically. He died about three hours later.
"Broken by pain"
Tenerife said the club was "broken by pain" and unable to believe the news was true. "There are no words of consolation," the statement said.
Andorra sent its deepest condolences to his family, teammates and the club. Gerard Piqué, the former Barcelona defender who is Andorra's majority shareholder, wrote: "I am so deeply sorry. Rest in peace, Jesús."
Barcelona and Real Madrid also paid tribute. Arsenal players held a moment of silence at training. Fans left flowers outside the stadium in Santa Cruz.
Spain's soccer federation postponed all Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina games scheduled for Tuesday.
Investigation underway
Spanish police have opened an investigation supervised by a judge. Owono has not been arrested or charged.
He also faces a possible suspension from Spanish soccer authorities over the red card.
His career
De Miguel spent most of his career in Spain's third tier. He played for Leganés B, Inter Madrid, Fuenlabrada, Navalcarnero, Unionistas de Salamanca and Castellón.
He was Castellón's top scorer when the club won promotion to the second division in 2024. He joined Tenerife in 2025.
