Nicolas Jackson scored twice and Aston Villa handed Manchester City its first Premier League loss of the season with a 2-1 win at Villa Park on Saturday.

Jackson struck in the sixth minute. Marc Guéhi could not control the ball near his own box and John McGinn pounced on it before slipping it to Jackson, who finished into the top of the net.

Erling Haaland headed in a cross from Iliman Ndiaye seven minutes after halftime for his ninth league goal of the season. Jackson answered on the hour mark when substitute Ibrahim Mbaye set him up and his shot squeezed past Gianluigi Donnarumma. It was his fourth league goal of the season.

Suzuki keeps City out

Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki was busy all afternoon. The Japan international pushed away a curling shot from Ndiaye, stopped Rayan Cherki after neat footwork from Jérémy Doku and turned away a long effort from Abdukodir Khusanov.

Ndiaye also hit the outside of the post before halftime. After City drew level Suzuki tipped a powerful strike from Josko Gvardiol onto the crossbar, moments before Villa went back in front.

Haaland thought he had a second equalizer late, but Ian Maatsen blocked his header on its way to goal.

A hard place for City

City has now lost its last four league games at Villa Park. The defeat ended Enzo Maresca's perfect league start as City manager.

Unai Emery's side keeps climbing after a slow start. It was Villa's fourth straight win in all competitions and its first league win at home this season.

City players were booed before kickoff, as they have been at other away grounds since the club was found guilty last month of serious breaches of the league's financial rules.

Arsenal pull level

Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 later Saturday to draw level with City on points at the top of the table. City stays first on goal difference.
