Leylah Fernandez is one win away from another title. The Canadian beat Kamilla Rakhimova 7-5, 6-3 on Saturday to reach the final of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

It is Fernandez's third WTA final of the year. She won the Singapore Open in September with a straight-sets win over Talia Gibson. Last week she lost the Ningbo Open final to Elena Rybakina.

She got some help on the way to the semifinals. Rybakina, the top seed, pulled out of their quarterfinal on Friday and gave Fernandez a walkover. Rybakina had already locked up the year-end No. 1 ranking with her second-round win on Thursday.

Shnaider waits in the final

Fernandez will face third seed Diana Shnaider for the title on Sunday. Shnaider beat 18-year-old Slovak Mia Pohankova 6-4, 7-6 (7) in the other semifinal. She came back from 4-2 down in the first set and saved a set point in the tiebreak.

It is Shnaider's first final of 2026. A win would give the Russian her sixth career title.

A rivalry that has swung back

This will be the sixth meeting between the two and their third this year. Fernandez won their first two matches in 2024 at Cincinnati and Wuhan.

Shnaider has won the last three, at Hong Kong in 2024 and at Adelaide and Charleston this season. Fernandez will try to snap that run and win her second title in Asia this fall.
