Kawhi Leonard expected to miss weeks with left knee swelling as the Raptors take it slow
An MRI showed no structural damage, but Toronto will use the time to ramp Leonard back up. The team says he will be re-evaluated in one week.

Kawhi Leonard's return to Toronto has hit a bump. The Raptors star is expected to miss a period of weeks because of swelling in his left knee, according to people familiar with the situation.
The good news is that an MRI showed no structural damage. The team and Leonard plan to use the time off to slowly build him back up. In a statement, the Raptors said Leonard will be re-evaluated in one week.
Leonard, 35, already sat out Sunday's game because of the swelling. It was the first game he had missed this season.
A strong start cut short
Leonard looked like his old self in his first two games back in a Raptors uniform. He averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals.
This injury is to his left knee. His past problems were with his right knee, where he has had multiple surgeries for his meniscus and ACL.
An unusual offseason
Leonard came back to Toronto in an offseason trade from the LA Clippers. His six seasons there ended under a cloud. He could not join the Raptors until the NBA finished its investigation into the Clippers' salary cap circumvention case.
After the trade he signed a two-year, $115 million contract extension with Toronto.
Raptors fans remember what he can do. In his only other season in Toronto, Leonard led the team to its only NBA championship in 2019 before leaving for the Clippers in free agency.
For now, the Raptors will have to hold the fort without him while his knee settles down.
