Kaitlan Collins sneaks a classic Mariah Carey moment into Election Night coverage
Kaitlan Collins compared John Sununu's Trump ads to Mariah Carey's famous line about not knowing Jennifer Lopez. Jake Tapper missed the reference.

Kaitlan Collins found a way to bring Mariah Carey into a night full of vote counts and maps.
While breaking down the New Hampshire Senate race on Tuesday the news anchor zeroed in on John Sununu. The Republican former senator was trying to win back his old seat against Democratic Congressman Chris Pappas.
Kaitlan pointed out that Sununu had run a string of ads insisting he barely knew President Trump. To her the move sounded very familiar.
The meme behind the joke
She tied it to a 2003 Mariah interview that later took on a whole new life online. In that clip the singer famously claimed she did not know Jennifer Lopez.
Kaitlan's co-host Jake Tapper looked a little lost. The reference seemed to sail right past him.
Anderson Cooper was clearly in on it though. He said he hoped this would not be the final Mariah mention of the evening.
Later that night Dana Bash posted on X to cheer on Kaitlan's moment as a proud Mariah fan.
How the race ended
As for Sununu the strategy did not pay off. Pappas beat him by a wide margin.
The result was part of a huge night for Democrats. The party took back both the House and the Senate and flipped several governor's races too.
With the holidays coming and Mariah's Christmas season about to kick off, Sununu might suddenly have some free time on his calendar.
