Jayson Tatum caps a 40-point night with an overtime buzzer-beater to beat the Nets
Tatum hit a 17-foot jumper at the overtime horn for a 125-124 win. It was his first 40-point game since coming back from a torn Achilles.

Jayson Tatum buried a 17-foot jumper at the overtime buzzer Tuesday night to finish with 40 points. The Boston Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets 125-124 for their third straight win.
It was Tatum's first 40-point game since he came back in March from a torn right Achilles. He went 10 of 20 from the field and 18 of 22 at the free throw line.
"That was a hell of a feeling," Tatum said. "Just kind of getting back to doing things that, you know, I used to do before I was injured."
History night
Tatum joined Larry Bird as the only Celtics to score 40 and hit a buzzer-beater in the same game, according to Basketball Reference. He is also the first player in NBA history to do it before November.
It was the third buzzer-beater of his career. That ties Bill Sharman for third most in team history behind Paul Pierce and Bird.
The Nets came close
Brooklyn rookie Mikel Brown Jr. hit a tying 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds left in regulation. He then missed a layup with 2.3 seconds left in overtime, which set up Tatum's winner. Michael Porter Jr. had 27 points and 12 rebounds for the Nets, who are 0-4 for the second straight season.
Paul George added 20 points for Boston. Derrick White scored 16. The Celtics have not lost since blowing a 22-point lead in their opener at Detroit.
