Jasmine Jasudavicius spent most of Saturday night on top of Erin Blanchfield. Three judges rewarded her for it with a unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night in Edmonton.

All three scorecards read 29-28 for the 37-year-old from Ontario in front of a loud home crowd at Rogers Place. The win was her second in a row and it moved her to 16-4. Blanchfield fell to 14-3 and saw a two-fight winning streak end.

A grappler out-grappled

Both women came in billed as elite grapplers and Jasudavicius showed she was the better one on the night. She took Blanchfield down five times and held control for almost eight minutes while Blanchfield held it for 14 seconds. She also threatened submissions from top position through much of the first two rounds.

Blanchfield led the striking 62-43 but never found a way to turn the fight into the ground battle she wanted. Jasudavicius kept her on the defensive from the opening round to the final bell.

"I love grappling," Jasudavicius said. "I understand it. I'm pretty good at it. And I like to show what I've got."

What comes next

The result may not hand her a title shot right away but it puts her among the leading contenders in a flyweight division that crowned a new champion two weeks ago. Natalia Silva beat her by decision in 2022 in Jasudavicius' second UFC fight and she says she wants that rematch.

"I want to cross paths with Natalia Silva again," Jasudavicius said. "We had a little bit of history before, so it would be an epic story."

Malott headlines with a knockout

Mike Malott closed the night with a knee to the chin that dropped Joaquin Buckley 2:32 into the second round of the main event. Malott is also from Ontario and had the arena behind him. Buckley has now lost three straight.

The card tied a UFC record for the modern era with 12 finishes (seven knockouts and five submissions) and matched the total from the Belgrade card on Aug. 1. A dozen Canadian fighters competed in Edmonton and went a combined 5-7.
