Jamie Lee Curtis remembers Susan Saint James, star of Kate & Allie, who died at 80
Curtis said she was once compared to Saint James when Universal signed her. The McMillan & Wife and Kate & Allie star died Monday after a cancer diagnosis.

Jamie Lee Curtis is paying tribute to Susan Saint James. The Emmy-winning star of McMillan & Wife and Kate & Allie died Oct. 26 at 80 of pancreatic cancer.
In an Instagram post, Curtis recalled becoming a Universal contract player as a young actor. She said the head of the program told her, "I haven't felt the same spirit and energy in someone since we signed Susan Saint James."
Curtis said she always saw Saint James as a "spirit guide" in show business. She signed off with "My Hand In Yours."
Co-stars remember her
Jane Curtin, who starred with her for years on Kate & Allie, also mourned her. "We lost a decent person today," Curtin said.
A TV fixture
Saint James won an Emmy for The Name of the Game. She went on to star with Rock Hudson in McMillan & Wife. In the 1980s she teamed with Curtin as two divorced moms sharing a house in Kate & Allie.
She married NBC Sports executive Dick Ebersol. In 2004 their 14-year-old son Teddy was killed in a plane crash.
Fans have been sharing clips of her work all week as tributes pour in.
