Rookie Cameron Boozer hit a go-ahead turnaround jumper with 20 seconds left as the Memphis Grizzlies used a 17-0 run to stun the Golden State Warriors 111-108 on Friday night in San Francisco.

The Warriors led 106-94 after a De'Anthony Melton corner 3 with 3:47 to play. Golden State missed its final nine shots and did not make another field goal.

Boozer finished with 25 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in just his second NBA game. Ty Jerome scored 28 points two nights after a career-high 45 in the opener, giving him an NBA-leading 73 points through two games.

How the lead disappeared

Stephen Curry fouled Jaylen Wells on a made 3 and Wells turned it into a four-point play. Curry, Draymond Green, Yaxel Lendeborg and Brandin Podziemski then missed four straight shots over about 80 seconds.

Boozer bulled his way to the line on back-to-back trips and made all four free throws. Jerome hit a corner 3 after a loose-ball scramble with 1:24 left to make it 106-105. Zach Edey blocked a Curry 3 and Wells tied it with a free throw with 54.7 seconds left.

After another Curry miss, Boozer drove on the smaller Podziemski, turned in the lane and swished a 9-foot jumper for a 108-106 lead.

On the next trip Green was called for an illegal screen. Coach Steve Kerr was hit with a technical for arguing. Jerome made the technical free throw and then drove for a layup with 10.2 seconds left to finish the run at 111-106. Lendeborg made two free throws with 0.5 seconds left for the final margin. The 17-0 burst was the second-longest fourth-quarter run by an opponent in Kerr's time as coach, behind a 21-0 Houston run in 2018.

Warriors frustrated

"Eight different things had to happen," Kerr said. "If any one of those eight doesn't happen, I think we win. It was just an avalanche."

"Pretty much everything went wrong," Curry said. "There are losses. Then there are losses like tonight that sting a little bit more."

Curry scored 24 points. Lendeborg had 18 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in his home debut and Podziemski added 18. The Warriors started rookies Lendeborg and two-way center Graham Ike, the first time a team has started two rookies in a home opener since the league began tracking starters in 1970-71.

It was a testy night. Isaiah Stewart and Green drew double technicals before halftime and Lendeborg and Jerome got matching technicals in the third quarter. It was Lendeborg's second technical in two career games.

Golden State is trying to stay afloat until injured wings Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody return. "It's a long season," Kerr said. "We will win our share of those games as well."

Up next

The Warriors play at Phoenix on Saturday night. Curry said he probably will not play and Podziemski will sit with back soreness. The Grizzlies visit Sacramento on Sunday night.
