The NFL has its first tie of the 2026 season. The New York Giants and Washington Commanders finished 27-27 on Sunday after a strange ending in which neither team could close the deal.

A big comeback by New York

Washington led 27-13 late in the game. Jameis Winston then brought the Giants back with three touchdown passes in all, including two 17-yard scores in the fourth quarter to Isaiah Likely and Malik Nabers.

Jayden Daniels returned from an elbow injury for Washington and was a threat all afternoon. He passed for 199 yards, ran for 103 more and scored twice on the ground.

No points in overtime

Both offenses came up empty in the extra period. Washington finally got into field goal range in the closing seconds, but Daniels went down without stopping the clock and time expired before the Commanders could try a kick.

Neither side left happy. The Giants blew a chance to steal a game they trailed by two scores. Washington let a likely win slip away in the last moments.
