Dwayne Johnson turns into a gray-haired oddball for Benny Safdie's Lizard Music

Dwayne Johnson has played wrestlers, spies and demigods. His newest role has him looking like a sweet old man who spends his afternoons on a park bench.

The new look

Johnson was seen on the New York City set of "Lizard Music" with thin gray hair, a thick mustache and a floppy hat on his head. Few passersby would have guessed the movie star was under all of it.

His outfit matched the look: a tan coat, a bright tie and loose trousers. Child actor Theo Clark Leber walked beside him, hauling a giant plush lizard in green.

Pizza between takes

The pair seemed relaxed during a break in filming. Both were spotted eating pizza by the slice.

The role

In the film Johnson plays a quirky older man known as The Chicken Man. Benny Safdie is directing the story of a boy who stumbles onto a hidden world of musical lizards.

It is not the first time Johnson has changed his look for Safdie. Their earlier film together was "The Smashing Machine," in which Johnson took on the part of ex-MMA star Mark Kerr.

When to see it

"Lizard Music" is set to open in theaters on Christmas Day 2027.
