Alejandro Davidovich Fokina stuns Alexander Zverev and Rafael Jodar beats Daniil Medvedev to set an all-Spanish Shanghai final
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina beat top seed Alexander Zverev and Rafael Jodar topped Daniil Medvedev so Spain will have its first Shanghai Masters champion.

The Shanghai Masters will crown a Spanish champion for the first time.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina rallied to beat top seed Alexander Zverev 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in Saturday's first semifinal. Rafael Jodar followed by beating former champion Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-4. They will meet in Sunday's final.
A career win for Davidovich Fokina
Davidovich Fokina, 27, arrived ranked No. 26 and is the fourth-lowest-ranked finalist in tournament history. He broke Zverev at the start of the third set after a double fault and closed out the match after wasting two match points at 5-2. It was his first win over a top-five player this season and only his second win in eight meetings with Zverev.
"I knew that if I stayed there all match, I could get at least one chance and I took it there in the second set," he said. "Then in the third set, I think I was better physically."
He has won nine straight matches in China after winning the title in Chengdu last month. He missed the North American hard-court swing in August with an injury. Zverev, this year's French Open and US Open champion, had already locked up the year-end No. 1 ranking.
Jodar's first Masters final
Jodar, in his first full season on tour, won a 12-minute opening game with two aces and broke Medvedev twice in the first set. He needed treatment from the physio after the set but broke again early in the second. Medvedev saved three match points before Jodar closed it out.
A rare Spanish final
It is the first all-Spanish final at a Masters 1000 event since 2017. Davidovich Fokina lost his only other Masters 1000 final at Monte Carlo in 2022.
