In the reported messages, she tells Jonathan Newell her memory is clouded and that no one should feel shame. Her lawsuit alleges she was raped.

Newly reported text messages show the Cornell student known as Jane Doe writing warmly to one of the men she later accused of rape, two days after the alleged assault.
The texts were reportedly exchanged with Jonathan Newell on the evening of Oct. 21, 2024. Newell apologizes and says he hopes she is not catching as much heat as the men are. He also writes that they have been shutting down any stories they heard.
Her reported replies
In the messages she thanks him and says her memory is very clouded and that everyone was extremely drunk and high. She tells him she enjoyed being with him and Matthew Ingalls and says outsiders have no say over what happened. She writes that no one should feel ashamed.
She also appears to say more people were in the room than should have been and that they should have left. Another message appears to reference an earlier encounter with both men.
Where the case stands
Jane Doe's civil lawsuit accuses seven former fraternity members of drugging and sexually assaulting her at the Chi Phi house in October 2024. The men deny the allegations and no criminal charges have been filed.
